It's time to Rest

He felt that his time had come
So he gathered his family to express his last wishes
He looked at his wife and his beloved children
And hoped to protect them in his predictable time ahead

In life he was awarded by his bold willingness
He endured audacious hardships
And dismissed unfavourable upsettings
Facing all with an honourable fighting spirit

So now he just wanted to rest in peace
In a quiet plot under a big shadowed tree
Where birds sang in melodious competition
And sunsets would lay upon golden grassland fields

Suddenly his voice began to loose strength
Becoming a muffled murmur
a declining intonation
Soon overlaid by an unexpected gust of wind

They mourned in sorrow and grieved their lost
They framed his medals and remembered his courage
Prepared the funeral and followed the hearse
Heading towards the secluded chosen place

They bought a plot of land withdrawn from public sight
In a private memorial park
where tree branches intertwined in connecting lines
Where grass was green and a chapel had a sign:

“In this cemetery you can only bury white"

They all stared at each other while their faces turned pale
Does God choose his faithful flock by colour range?
Surely it was a mistake a biased preconceived action
so they entered the chapel eager to reassess the undesirable tablet

There was a priest inside who saw them rushing
And collectively they advocated for social justice
They were there to fulfil their father wishes
Tragically it seems that there was an unjustifiable discrimination

Father had served his country regardless origin or race
He honoured his post being proud for what he endured
Now his corps stands unrestrained at the bottom of the stairs
In a mist of unfortunate prejudice and intolerant crippled distress

The priest prayed to God and asked for some enlightenment
So that the funeral was not overshadowed by an unjustifiable restriction
And then he came out in complete trust of his secluded confidence
Sharing the message that Jesus had also been treated with regrettable unfairness

The sign was removed and the crowd was relieved
Now they could fulfil the wishes from their beloved relative
And they followed the casket chanting a biblical text
The story of Christ himself who resurrected after dead
